After the meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav informed the media that the Supreme Court will conduct daily hearings on this matter starting from September 22. Complete timeline of the OBC reservation case so far
The entire issue began on March 8, 2019, when the government, through an ordinance, decided to increase OBC reservation from 14% to 27%. On August 14, 2019, the assembly gave this decision the force of law. Following this, a new roster was issued on December 24, 2019. However, due to several petitions, the Jabalpur High Court issued a stay order on this roster on May 4, 2022. Consequently, recruitment processes for MPPSC, PEB, and TET were also put on hold, stalling the implementation of the reservation. The upcoming Supreme Court hearings are now expected to bring a final decision on the matter soon.
How many candidates will be affected by the 27% reservation
CM Mohan Yadav stated that out of the candidates whose recruitments were previously on hold and then un-hold, the cases for 14% have been resolved, but the matters concerning 13% of the candidates are still pending. The government hopes for a swift decision from the court so that candidates who are nearing the age limit can participate in the recruitment process and secure employment. The Chief Minister emphasized that no eligible candidate should be deprived of a job solely due to legal technicalities.
United resolve of all parties
In this meeting, all opposition parties, including the BJP and Congress, clearly stated that there is no dispute regarding the implementation of 27% reservation. All parties have previously expressed their support for this in the assembly. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav remarked that this is not a time for political differences but for uniting to fight for the rights of OBC candidates. All parties collectively resolved to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the implementation of 27% reservation.
